Bmi forced to cancel Tripoli flight in first week of service

Bmi has been forced to cancel its flight from London Heathrow to Tripoli in the first week of the new service.

Bmi had been due to start a daily service from Heathrow to the Libyan capital Tripoli on December 1 but the launch was delayed until this week due to red tape.

Until now, British Airways has been the only UK carrier to serve the route and also operates a daily service.

BA also cancelled its flights today (Wednesday) and for Thursday due to political unrest in the Libyan capital.

It said it would be reviewing the situation for Friday.

Both carriers are offering refunds or rebooking for flights booked up to February 27.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) is recommending against all but essential travel to Libya.

“Those without a pressing need to remain in the country, should leave by commercial means if it is safe to do so,” says its website.
