Brisbane Airport expansion plan approved
A $340 million major development plan has been approved for Brisbane Airport.
The plan, which includes expansion of the existing international terminal building and an extension of the terminal’s northern concourse, has been given the nod by Federal Minister for Transport and Regional Services, Warren Truss.
Mr Truss said the extensions would help the airport meet future demand requirements, generate more than 5000 jobs, allow for an increased passenger processing and create additional employment opportunities.
“The project will improve the airport experience for passengers, with better movement through the airport, enhanced parking and new retail, duty free, food and entertainment facilities,” he said.
“The expansion of the terminal will virtually double its capacity, maximise the use of self-service check-in and significantly reduce queuing times for passengers.”
The approval is subject to a number of conditions which Mr Truss claimed were designed to ensure environmental and other aspects of the plan are appropriately managed.
