Britain ‘best place to work for holidays’

Sunday, 16 Nov, 2012 0

Britons might feel overworked and underpaid but, according to a new global survey, we’re much better off than other nationalities when it comes to taking time off.

We get an average of 25 days annual leave, compared to just 12 days for Americans and only 10 days in Korea, and fewer than one in four of us has ever cancelled or postponed a holiday due to work, while 37% of Germans confessed to work messing up their holiday plans.

The global survey of 8,600 workers by Expedia found that the UK is the best place to work when it comes to taking holiday, followed by the Netherlands and Canada. South Korea, Taiwan and Italy were the worst.

Most Brits – 74% – switch off when they reach their holiday destination and 58% never check in with the office while away; the same can’t be said of French who get five days more holiday than us on average but admit to keeping in touch with work while away, or the Italians who say their bosses don’t like them to go on holiday at all.
