British Airways Holidays forced to withdraw TV ad
British Airways Holidays has been forced to withdraw a TV ad featuring a holiday to Barbados after the advertising watchdog upheld a complaint.
The Advertising Standards Authority received a complaint claiming the holiday offer advertised was not available.
The tour operator argued that although it did not directly control availability as the flights and rooms were also on-sale elsewhere, it carried out audits each week during the advert to check the fare was available.
But the ASA said the complainant had tried repeatedly to find the holiday at the ‘from’ price of £549 but had been unsuccessful.
It did not feel the evidence given by the British Airways Holidays proved that 10% of the holidays were available at the price offered during the offer period.
The ASA ruled that the advert must not be broadcast again in its current form and in future BAH should make it clear that offers were extremely limited when advertising similar offers.
