British Airways warns of longer Asia flight times
With UK-based carriers banned from Russian airspace in a tit-for-tat retaliation move, British Airways warned flight times to Asia could be increased by 90 minutes.
Moscow imposed the ban after the UK Civil Aviation Authority banned Aeroflot, and later banned all private jets from Russia.
It will likely cause disruption to long haul routes including Hong Kong, Beijing and Seoul, as well as to India.
Sean Doyle, BA CEO said it ‘would not have a dramatic impact’ on airfares.
It comes as the airline suffered a crippling IT outage on Friday, causing flight cancelations.
The airline’s website and app were offline, preventing customers checking in and making new bookings.
BA said it caused ‘significant technical issues‘ but denied it was the result of a cyberattack.
