British backpacker dies of suspected alcohol poisoning
A British tourist has died in Indonesia from suspected alcohol poisoning.
The 23-year-old backpacker was travelling with a fellow Briton on Sumatra when she drank a local whisky called Mansion, according to the police document.
Police said they are investigating whether the alcohol was laced with methanol.
There have been several previous cases where methanol-laced alcohol has proved fatal in Indonesia, the majority of the fatalities happening in Bali.
Earlier this year a young Australian died after drinking a methanol-laced drink on the island of Lombok.
