British tourist drowns in Phuket
A British man drowned at a secluded beach on Phuket at the weekend – the second expat death in the water off the Thai resort in two days.
The man, aged 35 was reported to be snorkeling with friends at the time.
The drowning followed the death of an elderly Japanese man the previous day at Phuket’s Patong beach.
It’s the fourth drowning death this month at popular Phuket beaches, following those of an elderly Swiss man and a 26-year-old Dutchman.
Phuket beaches are known for their dangerous rips, especially during the May to October monsoon season.
Lifeguards say their warnings about dangerous sea conditions are often ignored by tourists.
