British travellers quarantined in Beijing
Nearly 100 British holidaymakers have been quarantined in a hotel in Beijing just hours after they landed in the city.
As fear of the deadly virus gripped the city, the 97 travellers were told that they would have to leave on the next available flight – and that in the meantime they would have to go to a hotel and would not be allowed to leave it.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, the group each paid some £2,500 for a 15-day tour of the country, with the tour operator Travelsphere. But unfortunately the Foreign Office issued its advice when the group were already on the outbound flight – clearly far too late for those on the plane.
One passenger told the Mail: “We are annoyed at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) for not notifying us and the tour group sooner and instead letting us fly for 14 hours and letting us be made almost prisoners. We were checking the FCO website all over the bank holiday weekend but it had not been updated since 2 April.”
