British Virgin Islands to get first resort in 20 years: world-class
The British Virgin Islands is getting its first resort development in two decades with the super-luxurious Mainsail development on Scrub Island.
Construction on the $45 million, 230-acre unspoiled island will get underway in May.
The development will include a boutique hotel, a world-class spa, and a 100-slip marina, as well as luxury homes.
“Mainsail BVI will appeal to the escapist in everyone,” said Joe Collier, president of the developing company, Mainsail Management Group.
Guests will arrive from Tortola via a five-minute ferry ride to discover a world-class retreat, he said.
Rooms will feature extravagant terraces. The development will have three main beaches. Pathways will wind through lush natural foliage to secluded beaches and protected covers.
The resort will also feature a $2 million spa and a marina shopping village with an extensive wine cellar, fitness center and cigar bar.
To protect the peace and privacy of guests, no more than 200 residents or guests will be on the island at any given time, according to Mr Collier.
Completion of the project is expected by the fall of 2007.
