British woman falls to death from Benidorm balcony
A young British woman fell to her death from the tenth floor of an apartment block in Benidorm, where she was on a hen weekend with 35 friends.
A 32-year-old British man, who was staying in the same building as 27-year-old Kirsty Maxwell, was arrested hours later on suspicion of her murder, but he was later released without charge and given permission to return to the UK.
It is understood that the unidentified man had let Kirsty Maxwell into a room at the Apartamentos Payma, which he was sharing with four friends. Police are working on the theory that she ended up in the room by mistake, possibly while looking for her friends.
After first going into the bathroom in the apartment, she then ended up on the balcony, from where she fell.
The Foreign Office said it was helping the young woman’s family following the incident in the Costa Blanca resort.
