Brits spend nearly £800 on Bank Holiday
Brits are spending an average of £790 per couple for a three-night break over the Bank Holiday, according to new figures from Travelrepublic.
The fastest selling destination for the online retailer is Dalaman in Turkey, up 260 per cent compared with the August Bank Holiday last year, largely due to it being outside the euro zone.
Sales to Madeira, Fuerteventura and the Spanish islands are also strong, according to Travelrepublic.
“The recent erratic weather has led to a defined spike in interest in getting away for the Bank Holiday, said managing director Paul Furner. “It also seems people are prepared to pay quite significant amounts to get away.â€
ABTA is expecting two million Brits will escape the wettest August for years by heading away over the Bank Holiday. As expected, Heathrow will be the busiest airport with over 420,000 people leaving from the hub on Friday and Saturday.
Meanwhile, Virgin Group’s Necker Island is competing for the most expensive holiday destination, with three-night breaks for travel from August 27 to October 9 costing £104,999. However, up to 28 people can stay on the island for that price.
Seven night packages are available for £222,088.
