Brits urged to flee Syria

The Foreign Office has advised all Brits to get out of Syria while commercial flights are still operating following the weekend’s unrest in which 120 people were killed.
Civilians protesting against dictator Bashar al-Assad’s government have been brutally attacked and there is “rapid deterioration” in the security of the country.
Some 500 British passport holders have registered with their embassy in the last few days. There are fears that flights will stop operating before all those who wish to leave can do so.
On its website, the FCO says: “Given the situation on the ground, it is highly unlikely that the British Embassy would be able to provide a normal consular service in the event of a further breakdown of law and order and increased violent civil disorder."
