Building work continues in Dubai
Tour operators are re-iterating their warning that building work is common in Dubai in an attempt to make sure holidaymakers are aware of the situation before travelling to the city. Currently there are over 30 hotels under construction in the oil-rich city and certain areas will resemble a building site for the next two years. Views from the five-star Hotel Jumeirah overlook construction work and operators have received complaints from holidaymakers in recent weeks. However, Thomas Cook Signature product manager Sheena Noakes said it was the company’s policy to inform all clients travelling to the city about the developments. “There has been an enormous amount of building work in Dubai for the past few years and this will continue for the next few years. It does go on 24 hours a day and we make all our clients very aware of the situation at the time of booking,” she said. A spokesman for the Dubai department of tourism confirmed over 30 hotels were being built with completion dates due this year, in 2006 and 2007.
