Campaigners get permission to challenge Heathrow expansion ruling

Thursday, 23 Jul, 2019 0

Campaigners against a third runway at Heathrow Airport have been given permission to challenge a High Court ruling over the plans.

Despite their cases being dismissed by two other judges in May, yesterday Lord Justice Lindblom granted permission for a four-day hearing at the Court of Appeal in London, starting on October 21.

Four separate judicial reviews were brought by the mayor of London, local councils, residents, and environmental charities including Greenpeace and Friends Of The Earth.

They argue the plans would effectively create a new airport~with the capacity of Gatwick and have ‘severe’ consequences for Londoners.

Announcing his decision yesterday, the Judge said : "The importance of the issues raised in these and the related proceedings is obvious."
