Carnival Cruise Line resumes commercial service at PortMiami
Carnival Cruise Line celebrated the departure of its first cruise in in almost 16 months from PortMiami aboard Carnival Horizon.
Carnival Horizon is on a six-day cruise with stops in Amber Cove (Dominican Republic) and the private Bahamian island of Half Moon Cay.
"PortMiami is our number one homeport in terms of ships and passenger embarkations and today’s return to cruising represents an important first step in getting our company back to business," said cruise line President Christine Duffy.
"The past year has been challenging to say the least."
As well as Carnival Horizon’s departure, Carnival Vista departed Galveston a day earlier, with Carnival Breeze sailing from Galveston on 15 July.
Carnival Miracle will kick off the line’s Alaska season from Seattle on 27 July.
Mardi Gras, the line’s newest ship, sets sail from Port Canaveral on 31 July. Other ships in the Carnival fleet will begin service in August.
