Carnival expanding shipboard Wi-Fi packages
Carnival Cruise Line is expanding its shipboard Internet packages fleet wide, with availability on every ship scheduled by early 2016.
Carnival will be offering tiered Internet plans, starting at $5 per day for social network sites only, such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
The Value package is priced at $16 per day for low bandwidth Internet access, not including streaming services or Skype.
There is also a high-speed unrestricted Premium plan at $25 a day.
The inclusive Wi-Fi packages are currently available on half of Carnival’s ships with Carnival Magic, Carnival Triumph, Carnival Valor and Carnival Fantasy rolling out the service during the next month.
In the meantime guests can still access the Internet on a pay per minute basis.
"Fast, affordable and reliable social media channels and the Internet have become essential on today’s cruise ships," said Gabriela Gonzalez, Carnival’s vice president of guest technology.
"We have thoughtfully approached this area to ensure we are providing options that guests sailing throughout our fleet find truly valuable."
Carnival also said it is expanding coverage of its new HUB mobile app, which is currently only accessible on the Carnival Breeze.
It will be added to five more ships by the end of the year and fleet wide by summer 2016, the line said.
The HUB app allows guests to chat with other cruisers and access rich content such as deck plans, itinerary information, and the option pre-purchase beverage packages.
