Catalonia Royal Bavaro Awarded its First Green Globe Certification
The Catalonia Royal Bavaro is an Adults Only luxury beachside resort located in the Dominican Republic in The Caribbean. Guests can relax at the tropical beach lapped by azure waters, indulge themselves at one of six restaurants or six differently themed bars and take a leisurely swim in either of the two dreamlike pools.
Green Globe congratulates Catalonia Royal Bavaro on achieving its first certification with a notable compliance score of 83% against accredited criteria.
A Green Team was formed specifically to achieve a high compliance in the new standards presented through the Green Globe certification system. The Green Team planned various social initiatives that were designed to educate and motivate guests to act responsibly toward the environment. This included a tree planting activity where staff assisted guests with planting indigenous trees in the resort gardens to teach guests about the effects of deforestation. The new trees also reduce the property’s carbon footprint.
Josmery Santana, Quality Control Manager at the resort said, "Protecting the environment is part of our work principles and politics. Sustainable development is a complete essential for continuous improvement because what we do with the forests of the world today is a reflection of our attitude toward our own future wellbeing."
In addition, on March 22nd, Catalonia Royal Bavaro celebrated UN World Water Day with guests to highlight the importance of saving this precious resource.
A complete team effort by resort management and staff ensures that compliance standards are maintained and a clear action plan is in place for the future. Visual aids are a simple and effective way of communicating the message of sustainability to all colleagues. During induction training, new employees are provided with a reminder card that highlights Green Globe sustainability objectives such as turning off lights in rooms and thermostats in offices to save energy and that suppliers that utilize recycled cardboard boxes for deliveries are preferred in order to reduce waste volume.
