CDC declares Zika advisory for Brownsville, TX

Just days after the last remaining area of Miami being monitored was declared Zika-free for local transmissions, the focus has now shifted to Texas.
The city of Brownsville is now under a travel advisory with pregnant women being advised not to travel there by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
There have been five cases so far of Zika infection contracted locally within the city, which is located close to the Mexico border.
"We’re recommending pregnant women not travel to Brownsville, and if they do travel to that area, to ensure that they avoid mosquito bites and they avoid the risk of sexual transmission, and that when they return from the area, that they undergo testing for Zika virus infection," said Dr. Denise Jamieson of the CDC.
The CDC says further cases are a possibility as the temperatures are still warm enough for mosquitos to breed.
Texas Department of State Health Services officials have called on all pregnant women in Brownsville and any who had visited since October 29 to be tested for Zika.
"The recommendation is now to test pregnant women more broadly in that area," health department spokesman Chris Van Deusen said.
