CDC ditches Covid reporting for cruise ships

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has scrapped its managed Covid-19 program for cruise ships.

The voluntary reporting program for cruise ships was brought in earlier this year, replacing the Conditional Sailing Order.

“New guidance for cruise ships to mitigate and manage transmission will be available in the coming days,” the CDC said.

“Cruise ships have access to guidance and tools to manage their own Covid-19 mitigation programs.”

Cruise lines are now able to impose their own health protocols, taking into consideration guidance from the CDC.

“This is an important step forward,” CLIA said.

“The sunsetting of the CDC program is a testament to the effectiveness of the industry’s comprehensive and robust protocols.”

“Cruise guests have the option of contacting their cruise line directly regarding outbreaks occurring on board their ship,” the CDC added.
