‘Celebration Of Winter’ Just 3 Days Away…And Snow!
With just 3 days to go until the official opening of the Australian snow season and Perisher Blue’s ‘Celebration of Winter’ festivities (8-10 June 2007), the resort has come alive after recent snowfalls and the snowmaking guns blazing 24/7 as conditions allow.
The cold snap that hit the resort of the past two weeks has brought natural snowfalls and allowed snowmaking operations to pump out snow in Perisher Valley, Blue Cow and Smiggin Holes. The result – snow on the ground for opening weekend and hopefully a sign of a healthy season ahead!
To celebrate the start of winter 2007, Perisher Blue’s ‘Celebration of Winter’ is set to offer everyone, young and old, a swag of fun entertainment. Live music, kids fun, buskers, street performers and other exciting acts are planned for the upcoming weekend. Best of all, it’s FREE!
The festivities kick off on Friday night at Smiggins Hotel with Steve Whitmore’s 3-piece band, Venus. On Saturday, Perisher Blue’s snow season will officially open with the ‘Blessing of the Snow’ at 10.15am on the Main Stage at Front Valley.
Highlights for the children include the Kids Flare Run & Fire Shows on Front Valley at 5.30pm on Saturday and Terry Cole (Kids Entertainer) on the Main Stage on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Perisher Blue’s very own Professor Nugget & Friends, Dan Druff the Clown, jumping castle, circus workshops, hair colouring and face painting will also captivate the kids throughout the weekend.
The older crowd will be spoilt for choice with a host of live music such as the Josh Owen band (Rock n’ Roots), Josh Rawiri (soloist), Saritah (Chilled out Blues) and Erratic (Live Dance and Funk) on the Main Stage on Saturday and Sunday and also on Saturday night in Jax.
For a more stylish welcome to the season, dine under candlelight at Snow Gums at the Perisher Valley Hotel on Saturday night (call 02 6459 4443 for reservations).
With snow on the ground, snowmaking operations in full swing and more snowfalls forecast over the next few days, there is even a chance of skiing and snowboarding on Front Valley over the weekend!
Gary Grant, General Manager of Marketing & Hospitality said, “The resort is covered in snow, snow guns have been operating and with less than a week to go until the start of the season, conditions are looking favourable for the predicted above average snow season.”
