Celebrity employee arrested following passenger rape claim
A Celebrity Cruises employee has been arrested after a British passenger claimed she was raped on one of its ships.
The 27-year-old woman, who was on a cruise with her parents, claimed she was attacked last Friday on board the 2,850-passenger Celebrity Equinox.
The employee has not been named, but Celebrity said he is a member of the shore-side offices who was conducting business onboard the ship.
The woman claimed she had met him in the ship’s bar and they spent several hours drinking together, after which he allegedly followed her back to her cabin, pushed her inside and attacked her.
The employee was arrested in Messina, Sicily, one of the stops on the ship’s 11-night voyage from Rome.
