Changi Airport Q1 passenger traffic tops pre-Covid levels
Singapore Changi Airport passenger traffic has surpassed pre-pandemic levels for the first quarter of 2024.
Changi handled 16.5 million passenger movements from January through March 2024.
It is up by just 0.5% on Q1 of 2019.
The airport saw 5.43 million, 5.35 million and 5.73 million passengers respectively in January, February and March 2024.
It says traffic to and from most regions has recovered or overtaken 2019 levels.
North America saw the strongest growth with traffic exceeding pre-Covid levels by 25%.
At a country level, Changi Airport’s top five markets so far in 2024 are China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia and Thailand.
Bali, Manila, Taipei, Seoul and Shanghai were among the top routes outperforming 2019 by an average of more than 10%.
Lim Ching Kiat, Changi Airport Group’s EVP for Air Hub and Cargo Development said, “We are delighted to report surpassing pre-Covid volumes. This follows a steady recovery of travel in the past year.”
“The strong traffic performance this quarter was boosted by the hosting of many music concerts in Singapore and the relaxing of visa requirements between China and Singapore.”
