Chaos at Channel ports
There have been chaotic scenes at ferry ports in France and England, with thousands of travellers stranded because of blockades by French fishermen. Both P&O and SeaFrance were forced to suspend their Dover to Calais services yesterday, while Brittany Ferries also cancelled at least one sailing. The Daily Express reports that in Calais, drunken fishermen attacked the P&O ferry Pride of Aquitaine, throwing bottles at the ship and setting fire to tyres and heaps of pallets on the dock. The newspaper states: “When Aquitaine docked at 3pm with three British lorries on board, to test the French blockade, the crew was met with a shower of beer bottles. Luggage trolleys were hurled into the harbour as police did nothing.”
