Chiang Mai to host 2016 Asia Golf Tourism Convention
For golf tourism leaders and tour operators, all roads will lead to Northern Thailand next year.
The city of Chiang Mai has been chosen as host of the 5th annual IAGTO Asia Golf Tourism Convention from 24-27 April 2016.
It will be the second time in three years Thailand has been chosen to stage Asia Pacific’s premier golf industry event after Pattaya in 2013.
"Thailand is not one single golf destination but a collection of uniquely different golf experiences throughout the length and breadth of the country," said IAGTO Chief Executive Peter Walton
"In selecting Chiang Mai as the host destination for AGTC 2016 we will be able to showcase Northern Thailand to well over half of all golf tour operators selling golf holidays to and within the Asia Pacific region."
This is a sentiment echoed by Chana Pangpiboon, Vice Governor of Chiang Mai province.
"Golf tourism is one of the most important products of the Thai tourism industry. Both Hua Hin and Pattaya have previously received IAGTO’s Golf Destination of the Year awards and I am certain that IAGTO’s tour operators will be similarly impressed with Chiang Mai."
The announcement of Chiang Mai as host came at the conclusion of the successful IAGTO Asia Golf Tourism Convention 2015 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
This year’s AGTC gathering attracted 510 delegates, including nearly 180 tour operator buyers from 35 countries around the world.
