Child dies in fall on Carnival ship
A child has died in a tragic fall on a Carnival Cruise Line ship while docked at PortMiami.
The eight year old girl fell from the interior atrium to the lower deck on the Carnival Glory as passengers were disembarking after a week-long sailing.
"As it was docked, an 8 year-old girl fell from a deck in the ship’s interior atrium to the lower deck. City of Miami Fire Rescue personnel responded to the scene, provided emergency care and transported the child to JMH Ryder Trauma Center, where she succumbed to her injuries," Alvaro Zabaleta of the Miami-Dade Police Department said.
First on the scene was passenger Bob Dorr, a retired medical professional who gave CPR, and described the injuries he saw as ‘very severe.’
She was later pronounced dead at Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
The line released a statement: "The ship’s medical team responded immediately and the child was transported to the ship’s medical center. She was subsequently transferred via ambulance to a local hospital. The ship’s command immediately contacted Miami-Dade Police Department which is on site. Our most heartfelt care and concern is with the family at this very difficult time."
