China tourism reopens, visa curbs lifted
Inbound China tourism will fully reopen from today.
It will resume issuing all visas types on 15 March 2023.after claiming a ‘decisive victory’ over Coviid-19.
China is one of the last major countries to fully reopen its borders to tourists.
All types of visas will be issued and visa free access will resume where applicable.
This includes for visits to Hainan and for cruise passengers calling at Shanghai.
“Visas that we issued before the pandemic are still valid and will be reactivated,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said.
“The review and issuance of tourist visas and other types of visas will be resumed, and visa-free entry for several places will be resumed.”
China tourism officials still haven’t said when they will drop Covid-19 testing prior to arrival, although protocols ‘will be optimised.’
China lifted its quarantine measures for inbound travelers earlier this year and began allowing travel overseas.
Chinese nationals can now travel on group tours to 60 countries.
