China tourists flocking overseas for May Day holiday
Travel distribution company DidaTravel says China tourists are back in force for the May Day holidays and eager to explore the world.
Bookings in China for trips abroad continue to recover fast.
According to recent data Chinese tourists’ international hotel bookings for the upcoming May Day holiday increased 30-fold YOY.
It surpassed pre-pandemic 2019 volumes by 18%.
Many people in China take five days off from April 29 until May 3 during the holiday.
The ADR for Chinese international hotel bookings also increased by 47%, reaching 95% of their 2019 level.
The international average length of a hotel stay is mostly unchanged at about two room nights.
As of April 20, the most booked international destinations were Thailand, Malaysia, US, Indonesia, Japan, and the Philippines.
The UK, Italy, Spain, France, and Germany were all in the top 20.
Rikin Wu, DidaTravel’s CEO said: “We are delighted to see the return of Chinese tourists. It is testament to the pent-up demand.”
The data is based on DidaTravel accommodation bookings for the 2023 Chinese May Day holiday.
