Choice, Expedia kiss and make-up
NEW YORK – Choice Hotels International and Expedia have ended their squabble over distribution terms and have signed a new three-year agreement to include Choice Hotels properties on Expedia and Hotels.com-branded sites worldwide.
“We’re pleased to be working with Choice in an agreement that respects the guiding principles which we operate under,” said Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Expedia, Inc.
Stephen Joyce, president and CEO of Choice Hotels International, said Choice Hotels and Expedia had worked together to establish a new agreement “that is mutually beneficial and enables hotels in the Choice system to effectively manage their businesses”.
The agreement follows a move by Expedia to remove Choice’s properties from its sites.
According to Choice Hotels at the time, Expedia wanted them to “give up control of their inventory and pricing and wanted to penalise franchisees who did not give Expedia 100 percent access all the time”.
Expedia blamed the breakdown on “an inability to reach an agreement on the terms of a new contract with Choice, despite numerous extensions granted by Expedia in the hopes of securing a mutually acceptable deal since the original contract expired in May 2007â€.
