Christmas boost for Eurotunnel
Eurotunnel saw a 2% increase in passenger Shuttle traffic last year when 2,663,865 cars drove through the tunnel.
Figures were boosted by a healthy increase in Christmas traffic, said the tunnel operator, which saw a 6% rise in passengers in December 2016 compared with December 2015.
Eurotunnel said the rise in passenger vehicles in December confirmed the upward trend seen in the previous three months.
However, there was a much greater increase in the number of trucks using the tunnel, with traffic last year up 11% compared to 2015. In total, 1,641,638 trucks were transported in 2016, its highest-ever number.
Eurotunnel’s revenues for the year 2016 will be published on January.
