Christmas-New Year’s travel setting records
AAA is predicting a record year for travel over the Christmas-New Year’s holiday.
About 62.7 million Americans will be taking a trip 50 miles or more from home, a 3% increase over last year, according to AAA.
The group cites faith in the economy and a increased confidence in American security as reasons behind the increase.
An estimated 50.9 million people will travel by car, which is a post 9-11 record.
Another 8.6 million Americans expect to fly.
Said Kris Lathan, AAA Chicago spokesperson.
“It’s a bonus of sorts to have both Christmas and New Year’s fall on Saturdays. Given corporate American observes each holiday the Friday before, it offers a chance to seize vacation opportunities from having two long holiday weekends back-to-back.”
