Club Med checks out of Lindeman Island
Club Med is ditching Lindeman Island in the Whitsundays because the resort no longer meets the new upmarket standards being pursued by the French hospitality chain.
Lindeman Island will close at the end of January 2012, and a buyer is being sought for the property.
CBRE Hotels Queensland has been appointed to sell the resort and has started discussions with potential purchasers ahead of a proposed marketing campaign in the new year.
Club Med said the decision to sell Lindeman was in line with its international strategy to move upmarket and meet the changing expectations of its guests.
“Club Med has made the decision to move on from Lindeman Island, but will continue to actively search for a new Australian resort location that will mirror the new global standards,” a Club Med spokeswoman said.
Club Med aims to have more than 65% of its resorts worldwide in the upscale 4 to 5 Trident category. 


Club Med has not taken forward bookings for Lindeman – which has 3 Trident status – after the January 31 proposed closure date.
