Crane collapses on 57th street

A crane next to a luxury highrise construction site on 57th street and 7th Avenue on Manhattan’s West Side has bent backwards and collapsed.

The building is a few blocks away from Central Park West and the famous Essex Hotel.

NY 1 is reporting live with images of the crane moving in high winds and hanging precariously over the city street below.

Local residents report sounds of sirens in the area and the presence of fire trucks.
