Cruise lines cancel China sailings
Multiple cruise lines are giving China a wide berth due to the deadly outbreak of coronavirus.
Port calls are being skipped this week and several lines have cancelled cruises departing China.
Carnival Corp’s Costa Cruises, which has a big presence in Asia, is hardest hit.
Four Costa ships have cancelled sailings for the rest of this month and in some cases into February.
These are the Costa Atlantica and Costa Serena’s sailings on January 31, Costa neoRomantica cruises on January 30 and February 2, and the February 22 sailing on Costa Venezia.
"The safety, security and welfare of all guests and crew are our absolute priority," the line said.
Two cruises out of Shanghai this week on Royal Caribbean’s Spectrum of the Seas and the MSC Splendida were scrapped.
MSC is offering full refunds and extra onboard credit for a future cruise.
Asia-based Dream Cruises’ World Dream cruise ship skipped a call at the port of Nansha at the weekend.
There have been nearly 3,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus in China with at least 80 deaths since the new virus strain was first discovered in the city of Wuhan last month.
