Cruise lines skip Maui port calls
Cruise lines have announced changes to Hawaii cruise itineraries, dropping Maui as a scheduled port of call.
It comes as the relief efforts go into overdrive to aid communities after the devastating Hawaii wildfires.
Hawaii Gov. Josh Green has urged tourists not to visit West Maui.
Norwegian Cruise Lines has dropped Maui as a port of call on its Pride of America Hawaii cruises.
Kahului was the first port of call after departing Honolulu.
NCL informed guests, that at least the next three weekly Pride of America Hawaii cruises are affected.
Further revisions are likely.
“In an effort to alleviate the pressure on local resources, we have made the decision to replace our scheduled stop in Maui with an overnight stay in Hilo, Hawaii,” the cruise line said.
The revised itinerary will also mean more time spent on Kauai.
Princess Cruises also revised its Hawaii cruise itinerary, which was due to call at Maui today.
This will be replaced with a stop at Kona.
Other cruise lines are expected to follow with Maui port call cancellations.
