Cruise ship guests injured in rough seas
Several guests and crew were injured as a cruise ship was battered by strong winds and waves off the coast of southern New Zealand.
Sixteen people were reported injured in rough waters near Milford Sound.
Princess ship Crown Princess was battered by strong winds causing a heavy tilt to the ship.
Images showed kitchen equipment and merchandise in shops scattered across the floor, while water from pools splashed onto decks.
“The tables and chairs went sliding across the room, and a girl went sliding on her chair over towards the pool,” a cruise ship guest told Australian news media.
The ship is on a 14-day cruise from Sydney.
Specific details regarding injuries to 13 passengers and three crew members haven’t been disclosed although all are thought to be minor.
“While in Fiordland, New Zealand, Crown Princess encountered strong winds during a course change, causing the ship to briefly tilt beyond its usual movement before stabilizing,” the cruise line said.
“Our crew responded quickly to correct the situation. There was no structural damage to the ship.”
