Cruise ship with 800 Covid cases back in Sydney
The Majestic Princess docked in Sydney after a Covid-hit cruise infected hundreds.
A huge outbreak led to about 800 guests testing positive for Covid-19, as well as some crew.
Carnival Australia president Marguerite Fitzgerald confirmed the extent of the outbreak in a media briefing at the weekend.
During the cruise, mass testing was carried out of 3,300 guests.
“All positive cases were mildly symptomatic or asymptomatic, and those guests isolated in their staterooms,” Princess Cruises spokesperson Briana Latter said.
“Carnival has advised NSW Health that they are assisting passengers with Covid-19 to make safe onward travel arrangements,” state health officials said.
The cruise line claimed the Majestic Princess was ‘reflective of an increase in community transmission in Australia.’
The NSW Ministry of Health recorded nearly 20,000 new cases in the last week.
