Cruise trends include third berth option
Some new cruise trends noted by the Vancouver Sun:
o New ships from Disney.
o Expansion of family facilities on many cruise lines.
o A third berth option in many cabins.
These are all “signs of the times, as the cruising demographic continues its decline and multi-generational families are a hot market,” says the newspaper.
Even the luxury brand Crystal is catering more and more to family travel and has added 15% to its third berth capability on its Crystal Serenity. These are in the form of new pullout sofas. The Serenity now provides 157 cabins with a third berth option, with some cabins having interconnecting suites.
Meanwhile, in other cruise news:
Unlike Cunard, the owners of the QE2, Majestic American Line, which owns the Delta Queen, has been doing everything to keep her sailing US rivers.
However, a US law forbids passenger vessels with wooden components from carrying more than 50 people on overnight trips. In this case, the vessel has a wooden superstructure and a steel hull.
The Delta Queen has already had seven extensions but another is unlikely. RIP: Delta Queen.
