Cruises to mend a broken heart
With the sea air blowing and the ship gently rocking, a trip to sea may be the best medicine there is.
But two new cruises are focusing specifically on healing those with ailing hearts, be they literal or figurative.
Psychotherapit and former A & E Television personality Edy Nathan will host a four-night "Turning Grief into Grace" cruise from Tampa on November 7 – 11, offering a comprehensive support program for those who have lost a love one, a job, or a relationship, or face trauma or health issues.
Nathan will "interweave her formal training as a psychotherapist with her views on grief, death, war trauma, and abandonment" to help cruisers steer a path to recovery.
The cruise will be held on the 10-year old Carnival Paradise, chosen for its small size and low-key atmosphere.
Those whose heart issues are more physical in nature might consider the Princess "Cruise with Heart," being offered in conjunction with the American Heart Association.
The four-night cruise, out of Fort Lauderdale, will offer programs, entertainment and activities designed to promote heart health, and also give a portion of sales as a donation to the AHA.
It will be held on the Ruby Princess, departing for the Western Caribbean on Feb. 10.
The trip includes free blood pressure screenings, classes in Hands-Only CPR, healthy cooking demonstrations and a 5K walk around the ship’s main deck, as well as heart-themed programs and entertainment.
A tax-deductible portion of every cruise fare, ranging from $100 to $300 per person depending on stateroom category, will be matched by Princess and donated to the American Heart Association, for a total possible contribution of $1 million.
