‘Cruises to nowhere’ to restart cruise industry in Singapore

Thursday, 09 Oct, 2020 0

Singapore has approved the restart of cruise operations.

Two cruise lines have been given permission to operate ‘cruises to nowhere’ from Singapore starting in November.

Dream Cruises’ World Dream ship will begin sailing on 6 November, while Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas ship will start sailing in December.

The cruises to nowhere are round trip sailings that do not call at any other ports.

The cruises were approved after the lines agreed to a rigorous set of safety standards.

These include tests for all passengers prior to embarkation as part of Singapore Tourism Board’s CruiseSafe program.

The STB said the cruises are only for Singapore residents at a reduced capacity of 50%.

Strict cleaning and sanitation protocols will be carried out and safe social distancing will be managed.

Dream Cruises will begin with a series of two and three-night cruises.

"We are delighted to be the first cruise ship to restart operations here in Singapore and give a much needed boost to the local tourism industry, " said Michael Goh, head of International Sales at Genting Cruise Lines and President of Dream Cruises.
