Ctrip: Dragon Boat Festival holiday boosts bookings

Thursday, 26 Jun, 2023 0

Travel platform Ctrip says domestic Dragon Boat Festival bookings increased 12-fold year-over-year.

Bangkok, Macau, Tokyo and Singapore were the most popular international destinations, spending an average of $415 per hotel booking.

Hong Kong was the most popular option for Chinese Mainland travellers, with hotel orders increasing more than 18 times year-over-year.

Many travellers chose to take the high-speed rail to Hong Kong, with bookings on Ctrip up 60% from last month.

Overall there were about 70 million passenger trips by rail.

Most millennials opted for destinations based on proximity, visa and flight convenience.

Many selected routes within a three-hour flight time.

These included Shanghai-Osaka, Shanghai-Jeju Island, Beijing-Seoul, and Beijing-Tokyo .

The Dragon Boat Festival is a brief national holiday in the Chinese mainland, prompting many individuals to spend less time travelling.

The top domestic city destinations were Hangzhou, Shanghai, Nanjing, Guangzhou, Suzhou and Beijing,

Ctrip says domestic hotels rates decreased compared to the May Day holiday.

Xi’an hotel prices fell by 29%, with Nanjing and Guangzhou hotel prices down 22% and 19%, respectively.

It says many young people have chosen outdoor or rural activities with outdoor activity bookings up 50% in the past two weeks.
