Cuba as meeting site gets mixed results
Would travel planners go to Cuba if they could?
Nearly 41% of travel planners said they would not go to Cuba if the US travel ban is lifted by Congress, according to a MiMegasite.com poll.
This compares to 24% who said that they would consider Cuba in the first year the ban was lifted, and another 34% who said they would wait at least a year before considering Cuba.
”One large question mark for Cuba would be the quality of hotels on the island, in that the US embargo has hurt quality over the years despite the presence of some Latin American and European hotel chains,” said MiMegasite.
Another issue is how freely attendees could walk around and mingle with the general Cuban population.
A bill introduced in the US Congress House Ways and Means Committee picking up steam would allow travel agents to book trips to Cuba, though it would not lift the current embargo on trade and investment.
