Cuba plans developing cruise and nautical tourism
In an ongoing effort to diversify its tourism product, Cuba hopes to snag a piece of the Caribbean cruise market, starting with the building of a "world class" cruise terminal.
This is just one facet to a plan to promote the country as destination for marine tourism, with facilities for sport fishing, diving, kite surfing, sea kayaking and yachting.
The government is keen to improve marinas, nautical centers, harbors and at fishing and diving zones.
Referring to plans for a new cruise terminal at Cienfuegos, southeast of the capital Havana, Jose Enrique Gonzalez of the tourism ministry said: "We’re thinking big, we’re talking about something world-class."
Alexander Sierra, development CEO at the ministry said nautical tourism is a priority sector for development.
The country has 53 port calls lined up for the coming winter season.
