Cyprus hotels drop prices
Cyprus hotels have dropped their rates by an average of 5% following the financial crisis that rocked the island.
Although prices for April are up 19% on last month, they have decreased year on year, according to Trivago’s latest hotel price index.
Hotels are charging an average of £81 a night compared with £85 in April 2012.
Hoteliers, agents and operators in Cyprus are trying to reassure potential holidaymakers that things have returned to normal following the EU bailout last month.
In a joint press release issued this morning, they said that hotels and "most" restaurants continued to operate normally and in the wake of recent banking developments ATM cash withdrawal limits had returned to normal levels.
"In addition, extra promotional offers and activity by hoteliers, tour operators and travel agents across Cyprus could make this one of the best seasons to visit the Mediterranean’s third largest island," they said.
Cyplon Holidays said it had "a number of extended early booking discounts" and other operators are offering added extras such as free upgrades.
Vanda Bauer, head of marketing Classic Collection Holidays, said: "Classic Collection Holidays enjoyed unprecedented sales to Cyprus during January and February this year when summer sales to the island were more than 50% above the same period last year. Not unexpectedly, during March, sales slowed but somewhat surprisingly didn’t dry up completely."
