Delta Air Lines launching San Jose-JFK flights
Delta Air Lines is launching a new coast-to-coast nonstop service linking the Big Apple with Silicon Valley.
Daily flights will connect New York JFK with Mineta San Jose Airport from mid-2018 Delta said.
The airline is clearly looking to attract the Silicon Valley business community.
"We’ve heard loud and clear from our Bay Area customers that nonstop service to New York City is important to them," said Ranjan Goswami, Delta’s vice president of sales.
"In addition to New York City access, this flight enables convenient connections to dozens of cities at our JFK hub to the Northeast and internationally," Goswami said.
Delta will use three-class Boeing 737-800 aircraft on the route.
The airline currently links San Jose with its hubs at Atlanta, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Los Angeles, Seattle and Salt Lake City.
It currently offers more than 20 daily departures from the airport.
"This new service is a big win for our passengers. We see this flight as especially great for New York-based business travelers who can arrive in Silicon Valley in time for a lunch meeting and can even travel home that same night if they wish," said airport director of aviation John Aitken.
Delta will face strong competition on the route from JetBlue while United and Alaska Airlines serve Newark from San Jose daily.
