Delta Air Lines restarting Mumbai flights

Friday, 01 May, 2019 0

Delta Air Lines will bring back nonstop flights to Mumbai, India later this year.

The year-round service from New York’s JFK to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport is expected to start on December 22 on a daily basis, using Delta’s recently upgraded Boeing 777-200 long range aircraft.

It features Delta One suites and Delta Comfort + seating, as well as Wi-Fi connectivity.

It becomes the only current US carrier linking New York with Mumbai, although rival United Airlines serves the Indian city from Newark.

Delta last operated Mumbai service in 2009.

Demand for direct US-India flights is on the increase especially with Delta partner Jet Airways now with its wings clipped and looking increasingly unlikely to resume operations anytime soon.

Delta was tipped as a possible buyer for the cash-strapped carrier while Jet’s under pressure CEO Vinay Dube is a former Delta executive.

Atlanta-based Delta said it will also add extra flights from New York to London, Tel Aviv, Paris, and Amsterdam.
