Delta downsizing Atlanta-Dubai route this winter
Delta Air lines is cutting back on its Atlanta-Dubai route this winter due to ‘overcapacity’ caused by the growing dominance of the big three Gulf carriers.
Delta announced it will reduce its current daily service to four or five times a week from October 1, while also having another swipe at the Gulf carriers.
"The reduction comes amid overcapacity on US routes to the Middle East operated by government-owned and subsidized airlines," said Delta spokesman Trebor Banstetter in a statement.
Delta will resume daily service again from April.
Once Delta’s amended schedule kicks in, United Airlines’ Washington DC-Dubai route will be the only nonstop year round daily service to the UAE operated by a US airline.
Delta along with United and American Airlines has been engaged in a war of words with the big three Gulf carriers Emirates, Etihad and Qatar Airways over US claims that they receive billions in unfair government hand-outs.
