Delta flight delay in intense heat now under DOT investigation
The long-delayed Delta flight that caused passengers to pass out is under investigation by the Department of Transportation.
Passengers were stuck on the tarmac in intense heat without air conditioning leading to pasengers collapsing, others on the flight said.
The airline claimed just one person had to seek medical attention.
“The reports are shocking and we are investigating,” said Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
“I want to know how it was possible for passengers to be left in triple-digit heat onboard an aircraft for so long.”
The DOT ‘will hold the airline accountable for any violations,’ an official told CNN.
Delta said it is cooperating with the investigation.
The airline apologized for the tarmac delay.
Although there are strict tarmac delay rules, it didn’t violate the time limit that airlines can keep passengers in the cabin.
However, the approximately 90 minutes was long enough to cause significant discomfort due to the intense heat.
