Delta hoping for a ‘relatively normal’ flight schedule on Monday

Delta Air Lines expects a fairly trouble free day Monday six days after thunderstorms caused havoc with flight schedules.

The airline has struggled since then to get back on track, again canceling flights over the weekend.

More than 300 flights were grounded Saturday and a further 125 on Sunday.

The carrier cited the ‘availability of flight crews to operate within federally mandated crew rest and duty day guidelines’ for the prolonged disruption.

Spokesman Michael Thomas told CNN so far just a handful of flights will stay grounded on Monday.

"We currently have three cancellations and expect a relatively normal operational day," he said.

So far nearly 3,500 have been cancelled since the storm broke.

The harsh tornado-like conditions around Atlanta hit the airline particularly hard.

Around 60% of all aircraft transit through Delta’s hub at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport each day.

While the now obligatory pizza party may have appeased some stranded passengers, it has taken serious heat from irate customers on social media with #DeltaMeltdown trending.
