Delta to begin codesharing with LATAM early next year
Delta Air Lines plans to kick off its partnership with LATAM early next year with the start of a codesharing pact.
Delta will team up with LATAM affiliates in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru to offer two-way through ticketing to more than 100 cities across the Americas.
It includes connecting up to 74 onward destinations in the US and up to 51 destinations in South America beginning in the first quarter of 2020.
Delta says more will be added over time and the airlines are working on linking frequent flyer benefits and lounge access.
"This is an important milestone for customers as we begin to deliver on the partnership between Delta and LATAM announced earlier this year," said Steve Sear, Delta president – international and executive vice president – global sales.
The airlines announced a joint venture agreement earlier this year, which will lead to LATAM formally ending ties with American Airlines early next year.
It could also hasten its exit from the Oneworld airline alliance.
As part of the JV, Delta agreed to purchase a 20% stake in LATAM Airlines Group for $1.9 billion.
The codeshare arrangement is still subject to various regulatory approvals.
