Despite Florida legal fight, cruise lines continue following CDC rules

Despite Florida currently having the upper hand in its legal fight with the CDC, cruise lines are continuing to follow all prescribed rules under the CDC’s conditional sail order.

Cruise lines have said they will voluntarily follow CDC guidance after being asked by the CDC, even though the state of Florida has an injunction rendering them invalid for now.

The CDC wrote to cruise lines seeking confirmation that ships operating out of Florida would ‘ollow all of the CSO’s provisions on a voluntary basis.’

Carnival Cruise Line, NCL and Royal Caribbean all publically announced they would comply with current CSO requirements.

The agency had given the industry an ultimatum: follow the CSO rules or it would enforce mandatory mask wearing which is still applicable on other forms of transportation such as planes and trains.

In a FB post Michael Bayley, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean wrote: "We will continue to voluntarily follow all CDC guidelines and recommendations."

"While matters continue to be litigated, we intend to follow protocols consistent with CSO guidelines," Carnival Corporation spokesperson Roger Frizzell said.
